Android App Review - Camera360 Ultimate by PinGuo Inc

Android App Review - Camera360 Ultimate by PinGuo Inc

Camera360 Ultimate by PinGuo Inc. This is arguably one of the best, the most popular and one of the most feature rich and stable camera and photo editing app out there on Google Play, and it's free, on top of everything. With tons of features, filters, magic colors, collage building and cloud storing, this is really an astounding app that really has almost everything needed for a comprehensive smartphone camera app.

With a clean and neat interface, the user can access almost every conceivable photography and photo editing parameter, from contrast to sharpness to saturation to magic color to exposure time to zoom.

Additional effect such as scene pictures where a downloaded scene will the the background for a picture you take. Cool features include batch operations for doing the same thing for a group of pictures, say pictures taken on a single day.

Camera 360 allows to apply effects to a picture during its taking and also afterwards, which really turns into a fast and effective photo editing app. Pictures enhanced with effects can be quite stunning, citing Magic Color, Black and White, LOMO, RETRO, HDR and ENHANCE. Of course, several modes of shooting pictures exist, from self portrait to quick shoot to special effects mode.

Camera 360 Cloud is another great option for saving those albums for those afraid to lose their smartphone during a trip or just running out of place on their SD cards. Naturally, it's also a great sharing feature.

Unfortunately, apparently an app of such complexity must contain bugs and problems. We've had several testers reporting of crashes and freezes, and even some problems with pic management - old pictures stuck inside the Camera 360 folders and the app can't remove them and even rarely, an old picture will appear to be edited instead of the picture that had been selected. We've also had issues with too bright scenes - the Camera 360 light meters seems to take a long time to recover.

  • Score:4.5 out of 5. It would have been a perfect 5 if not for the few bugs and problems, rare but irritating. We hope a future update will make us give this Camera 360 a well earned 5 out of 5.
  • Description: A camera and photo editing app which lets you pick a filter, camera mode and edit the photo during or after taking it, creating collages, pictures in preloaded scenes or adding special photo effects.
  • Good Points:One of the best camera and photo editing apps, rich with features such as camera modes (we liked quick shot in particular), special effects (magic color is another favorite), filters and a useful cloud option.
  • Bad Points: A few rare but irritating bugs. Old pics that cannot be erased or that pop up when you want to edit a newer pictures. Several crashes. Adjusting to a too bright scene seems to take too long. Auto save feature that disappeared during the last update.
  • Experience:Every tester could use the app within moments after installing, which in our book makes for a good app. The special filters and effects were also very easy to use and even the testers with the least understanding in photography managed to produce outstanding pictures, which explains why this app is so good and why is it so popular.
  • Longevity:Excellent. Most if not all of our testers continued using this app, for the filters and special effects if not for the camera modes. Almost none uninstalled it.

Android App Review - Photo Grid - Collage Maker by RoidApp

Android App Review - Photo Grid - Collage Maker by RoidApp

Photo Grid - Collage Maker by RoidApp. This is one of the best collage maker apps we had the pleasure of testing. Simple, intuitive, and fast - this app lets you pick your images, arrange them in one of a huge series of collages, crop and resize as you see fit (though the app now automatically crops the images to square shape for Instagram) and the you can go right ahead and post them wherever your like.

Most of our testers were very fond of this collage making app. Even the less tech oriented had no problem working with the many features of Photo Grid, mainly because of the simple and intuitive interface.

Of course, shaking the smartphone to re-arrange the photos in the collage was reported as one of the most fun features of the app ... Kudos to Roidapp for this feature.

We found we had almost everything we needed in this app. Picking the pics we wanted, editing them for the collage, picking the collage template we wanted out of a large variety and adding text, emoticons and everything else we wanted. Of course, sharing the collage through Instagram, Facebook and wherever else you want.

However, our testers did express a desire for a little larger variety of collage frames, stickers and backgrounds. There were now and then problems in logging in to Instragram and one tester reported that his hand shook, sometimes ruining a painstakingly arranged collage by mixing the pics again ...

  • Score: A 5 out of 5, because of its simplicity, great interface, shaking feature and the quick way it lets us produce a collage. It still needs some more collage frames and stickers but we're confident future updates will fix that.
  • Description: A collage making app with a simple interface that lets you quickly pick the images you want, arrange them on one of a predefined set of collage frames, edit and crop the images and then post the collage on Instagram etc.
  • Good Points: Very simple and intuitive interface lets everyone produce the collages they want very quickly. A shaking the smartphone feature that re-arranges the photos on a collage frame. Editing and cropping features for the images themselves.
  • Bad Points: Our testers reported several issues with logging on to Instagram and Facebook. Though rare, these instances were very annoying. In addition, Photo Grid needs more collage frames, backgrounds and stickers to successfully compete with the other collage makers on Google Play.
  • Experience: What we liked about this app is its simplicity. Everyone managed to produce a lovely collage within moments of downloading Photo Grid, even those testers who need to have everything explained to them in detail ...
  • Longevity: Excellent. Almost every tester kept this app installed, except those very few who HAD to have more collage frames NOW.

Android App Review - Jotre Calendar by Jotre Inc.

Android App - Jotre Calendar by Jotre Inc.

Jotre Calendar by Jotre Inc. A simple yet feature rich calendar and task manager. With colorful graphics and icons, great widgets to show you upcoming events in the near future and synchronization with Google Calendar, Jotre Calendar app has almost everything a calendar should have. An instant favorite among our testers, the great majority have kept it even after the testing period was over.

The testers have generally loved this app. It's simple and effective and its widgets allow every user to select the area they want on their home screen Jotre is to occupy, thus one look at the home screen provides the user with instant information about upcoming events.

You can configure almost everything on Jotre Calendar. The color of the cells, the text, the icons, whether the language and the time changes when you go abroad, literarly hundreds of different options.

Some of our testers have actually turned Jotre into their main event and task manager app, using it to synchronize everything in their lives. The sync option with Google Calendar insures that all your events will be saved on a major company's hard drives and you can access them easily from you PC, or sync it with Microsoft Outlook, if your tastes take you there.

The only things our testers found difficult was setting up the app, since the bewildering amount of options confused some of our users, as some of them even had trouble understanding the different widgets and how to place them on the home screen. We understand these are less tech savvy people, but still ...
Yet, this is a great app and rightfully deserves our max score.

  • Score:5 out of 5. Even though some small problems exists, this is one of the best apps that we reviewed here on Android App Review Center.
  • Description: This is a calendar app that allows you  to place, see and manage your calendar, including tasks and appointments in a visual way. One of the things which makes this app special is its widgets which allows the user to see a week, or two weeks or almost any time frame ahead right on your home screen and see what appointments are due and when. Another great thing is the ability to sync with Google Calendar, which brings the old dream a step closer to reality - the ability to sync your appointments and tasks from your desktop Outlook to Google Calendar to your smartphone. In addition, the usual Google Calendar notification pops up whenever an appointment is over due.
  • Good Points: The ability to sync tasks and appointments with Google Calendar, The widgets you can place on your home screen to see right away what appointments lurk in the near future, Almost fully customizable look, You can set a default for the appointment reminder that will be used for all the reminders of the appointments you set.
  • Bad Points: There is no way to customize the size of the text fonts on the widget which sometimes makes reading and finding out what appointments you have today a bit tough, From experience, some people find it difficult the understand how to install the widgets on the home screen, the Google Calendar notification is a little ugly - we would have preferred a Jotre specific notification instead.
  • Experience: We've been working with this app for almost a month now and have no intention of uninstalling it. It really is a very good interface for Google Calendar and it makes managing appointments and tasks easy and simple. We're certainly going to stay with this app for the foreseeable future.
  • Longevity: Excellent. This is one to keep and even convince the odd friend here and there to install it.

Android App Review - My Piano by Borce Trajkovski

Android App Review - My Piano by Borce Trajkovski

My Piano by Borce Trajkovski. This is a simple yet feature rich piano app for the serious player who must have a piano app handy (musicians and such) but the main use our testers have found for it is as a past time from the kids - kids love it, the various sound effects and can spend a lot of time exploring the different sounds and effects.
My Piano app can show up to two octaves at the same time, can play as several instruments and load up new sound effects. It has volume controls, recording features, very nice animations for pressed keys and various quality controls - in total, producing a very life like piano simulation, with excellent sound quality. And for the more serious minded users, this app can also serve as a MIDI controller over WiFi.

A few of our testers commented that they would have liked more than the two octaves available and one complained that she was afraid to give it to her kids because you cannot control what adds appear during play.

  • Score: A very strong 4.5 out of 5 stars. Would have been perfect if there was an option for more than two octaves and a paid version of the app that would have made the ads go away.
  • Description: A fairly sophisticated piano app that lets the user play using several instrument sounds, record new samples, record pieces played on the app itself and has extensive MIDI features.
  • Good Points: Simple and easy to use. Has MIDI features and several playable instrument samples. Can record pieces played on the app.
  • Bad Points: Some testers wanted more than two octaves while others disliked the ads, preferring a paid version (that still doesn't exist) which would make the ads go away.
  • Experience:Most of the testers reported that almost as soon as they installed the app, their small kids (if the testers had any ...) took to it almost immediately. There were very few problems and almost no crashes or freezes of any kind.
  • Longevity: Almost all the testers with little kids kept the app installed. The testers with some musical inclination also kept the app, as it allows them to whip out the smartphone and play a tune any time they want.

Android App Review - Battery by MacroPinch

Android App Review - Battery by MacroPinch

Battery by MacroPinch app. A simple but very useful app that works on a very large variety of Android devices - from smartphones to tablets. The battery app monitors the battery, displays in the notification bar and a widget the current power percent and the smartphone's or tablets working time left before the battery is drained.

We liked this app a lot. Simple yet effective, it only has one problem which is probably unavoidable.

The battery app also has advanced battery monitoring features which allow you to monitor to battery's health. If a smartphone develops a tendency to drain its battery quickly, you can use the app's advanced features to see if its healthy and use to app the open Android's power monitoring app which shows you which app is using how much power, in case something in the smartphone is draining the power too quickly.

Some of our testers were confused by Battery app's feature which shows how much time there is before the battery is drained. What confused these testers is the fact that the app shows time remaining according to current power consumption. So, if you have a heavy game running over WiFi, the battery app will indicate the battery will drain quickly. If you turn off the game and then check the battery app again, it will show a much longer battery draining time.

Aside from that time indication which may be confusing, the app was very much liked by our testers. Useful and simple, it became indispensable in an instant.

  • Score: A 5 out of 5, because it does exactly what it says it does, simply and easily.
  • Description: A battery monitoring app that displays the battery's remaining power by percentage and also shows how much time there is before the batter runs out of power. Has notification bar and widgets display.
  • Good Points: Very simple to understand and use. Has widgets and notification bar displays. Has time remaining display in addition to percentage of power used.
  • Bad Points: The time displayed till the battery runs out depends on current power usage, i.e. which apps are running, whether WiFi and GPS are turned on, etc. So, checking on different times may show wildly different results, which confused some of our testers.
  • Experience: All our testers found the app very useful, whichever Android version they had. All turned the notification bar display on (which makes you ask, why was it turned off as default after installing) and went right on using it.
  • Longevity: Almost all kept the battery app installed on their smartphone or tablet for good.

Android App Review - Candy Crush Saga

Android App - Candy Crush Saga

Candy Crush Sage is one of the most popular games on Android right now, and Facebook is filled with cries of "How do I get past level 99?" or "Awesome! I finished level 199!". A candy crushing puzzle, you go through a world where the puzzles are made off candy, just waiting there to be crushed.

A very addictive game, Candy Crush Sage promises hours of fun but also some frustrating levels if the necessary upgrades and power ups are not bought with real money. Changing levels with tons of colorful, sweet candy to crush, the Candy Crush addiction is here.

  • Score: 4.5 For an enjoyable and addictive if a little repetitive game.
  • Description: This is a puzzle solving game with fun and cheery graphics, if a little over too 'fruity', tons of levels and special items that can help solve the more difficult levels and generally make the game a little more interesting. The feature of buying stuff in mid game can be turned off, which may be a good feature for some who find it irritating. In general, Candy Crush Saga is a fairly addictive game for those who have kids, some spare time in boring meetings or on public transportation and are not afraid of cheerful music and bright colors. Of course, this is a must for all lovers of candy!
  • Good Points: Very addictive and fun, lots of levels, probably one of the best puzzle games out there - quite challenging on the higher levels.
  • Bad Points: Sometimes it's difficult getting past some levels (upwards of level 180) without paying for power ups, there are rare instance of the game not loading and spending lives, the update policy seems a bit strange and there are rare instances of freezing up - especially when trying to get things sent by friends.
  • Experience: Installed it about two weeks ago and played it extensively. The game does seem to have some problem receiving tickets from friends and it did freeze once and did a forced closure two or three times. Our testers were fairly addicted and one even paid to have higher levels open up. They all think this is a great free game, just needs to have the several kinks and bugs fixed.
  • Longevity: Fair - Been playing it for two weeks now but will probably uninstall it in another two weeks or so.

Android App Review - Tiny Flashlight + LED

Android App Review - Tiny Flashlight + LED

Tiny Flashlight + LED. A small but very useful app that does exactly what its name suggests - turns your smartphone into a flashlight, and a fairly powerful one at that. When activated, the app appears in one of several possible skins but the one we found most useful was the one where a large light button appears, along with a live counter showing battery strength, which the powerful LED flashlight consumers rather fast.

The app has some very useful features, such as the power indicator and the large operating button when you run it. In addition, to conserve battery it will exit by itself unless you tell it not to. In addition, there is another interesting and useful feature to turn the light on by just shaking the smartphone without unlocking it.

However, it does have some problems. Sometimes, it does turn the power on by itself. An irritating feature is the way it appears in the notification bar and begs you to close it. A rare occurrence is that the flashlight refuses to turn the light on.

Other than those small problems, this is a must for those who need to turn their smartphone into a flashlight, which actually all of us need one time or another.

  • Score: 4.5 Out of 5. An almost perfect app.
  • Description: A flash light app that turns the smartphone's into a fairly powerful flash light.
  • Good Points: The app can be activated by shaking the app without unlocking the smartphone, there are various skins for the app which make activation easier, The app reports current battery status which gives an indication how much longer the flashlight can still operate.
  • Bad Points: Shaking the smartphone to activate the flashlight doesn't always work - you sometimes have to shake it repeatedly in various ways till the app activates, It would have been great to have a time indicator when the flashlight works in addition to the battery status indicator - to know how much more time the flash light can still work.
  • Experience: All of our testers reported that having the smartphone turn into a flashlight helped them immensely on at least one occasion. None of the testers reported being put off by the several small problems in the app.
  • Longevity: Excellent. The app has been installed for more than a year and none of our testers have uninstalled it, nor have an intention to uninstall. This app stays on the smartphone - at least till Google put out an Android version that have some of these capabilities built-in.
