Welcome to our "Free Online Basic Photography Course". This course entitled The Fundamentals of Digital Photography is aimed at photographers of both beginner and amateur skill level. So if you are a complete beginner, no worries the course will help you get started and progress from being a complete beginner to an intermediate or serious amateur level. If you are a professional photographer, you may still find the material useful as a refresher course to brush up your knowledge.

Apart from text, we have included many diagrams, illustrations, pictures, animations and videos in this tutorial to help you better understand the concepts discussed in a simple and easy way.

Photography is an art and the quality of your work will depend on your artistic skills, but sound understandings of the technical aspects are the foundation; and without a solid foundation you can’t build on your artistic skills. So you need to first master the technical aspects and slowly progress towards the artistic part.

The course is designed in such a manner so as to take you through a visual journey explaining first the technical aspects of photography; familiarizing you with the photographic exposure, white balance, digital camera settings and features and then slowly progressing towards the technical though artistic aspects like focus and depth of field and finally touching on the artistic side of photography like timing, composition and subject knowledge.

Before we get started the basic requirement to do this online course is to have a camera, it does not matter which one, and it could even be a simple point and shoot. But you will realize the full potential of the course only if you have a DSLR so that you have complete control over all aspects of photography. You will find that throughout the course we are only referring to Canon and Nikon, and not any other brands, there are many other manufacturers like, Sony, Olympus, Pentax, Fuji etc who make pretty decent cameras and accessories, we are only mentioning Canon and Nikon because almost 80 % of our viewers are using either of these brands, and you will find that pretty much everything we discuss here are applicable to cameras made by other manufacturers, only thing the icons or symbols as well as the menus will be slightly different.
