A landscape photographed from the exact same spot during different times of the day could have very different feel from one another so imagine what different seasons can offer. Different seasons offer a variety of colours and moods making it worthwhile to keep exploring locations in different seasons. Landscapes are entirely transformed and they acquire a whole new look and feel with a change of season – you can capture the brilliance of snowfall in winter, lush green fields in spring or harsh shadow and glowing evenings in summer.

Use Weather to Capture Mood
Always make sure to check the prevailing weather conditions of the area that you wish to shoot so that you could use the information gathered to your advantage. Being informed of the weather conditions helps you to be prepared with the correct gear both for you and for your camera. Remember that the weather conditions can change considerably in the span of a single day. An overcast sky can suddenly clear up and throw soft light on a landscape and vice versa. Sudden changes of weather can offer a wide range of new subjects such as glistening surfaces and surreal, captivating reflections. And more often than not stormy skies make great background for a variety of subjects.

Learn to Anticipate
Anticipating what is going to happen next could greatly increase your chances of capturing perfect frames. The quality of light, ambience, atmosphere of the scene etc are all subject to sudden change and they evoke a wide range of expressions. Being able to anticipate those will help you capture perfectly timed clicks.

Use Ambient Light to Convey Emotions
Light and its various qualities like harshness/softness, warmth/coolness, angle etc are the major elements that convey moods and add tones to photographs. The characteristic of light changes drastically with the change of seasons and so does the effect it has on your subjects. So bear in mind not only seasons but also the time of the day is important and in between them they create a wide range of moods to the landscape for you to capture.

Create Drama by Shooting After Dark
Changing seasons can offer different moods for landscape photography. The position of both the sun and the moon changes with the change of seasons. So needless to say the nature of twilight also changes with changing seasons. The fact that moon light has all the elements of the visible light spectrum in it is generally overlooked. Try shooting landscape photographs during full moon nights using long exposures and you will find that a whole new world of opportunity open for you to explore.
