Tappy Bulbs by Texo Design - Android App Review. Sometimes the simple things are really the hardest things to accomplish and the simplest apps can provide hours and hours of fun. But the question must be asked, is Tappy Bulbs one of these apps?

Tappy Bulbs by Texo Design is a deceptively simple game. The gamer is presented with a screenfull of lit light bulbs and all he or she has to do is tap them to turn them off. Tappy Bulbs ups the ante by introducing unlit bulbs, and highly dangerous sockets that you can guess what tapping them does.

So, is Tappy Bulbs a game to be downloaded and installed? 

So, we gave Tappy Bulbs to our small army of experienced and mobile users and gamers (some young, some old, all share our passion for all things mobile) and told them to tap away and turn off those pesky annoying lit light bulbs.

First and foremost, we got a quick round of applause from all those parents of children aged 2 and older. Apparently, all parents are united in the quest to seek out and turn off the lights their children left off. Tappy Bulbs was their sweet revenge! Finally the parents can sit down and turn off as many lit light bulbs as they want!

But more seriously, all our reviewers had no problem installing and running this game (yeah. You'd be amazed at what problems some of our reviewers get with some smart ass apps.) and all grasped the fundamentals easily and started playing. The first few levels were a breeze and then it started getting harder. 

All of our reviewers found this game to be very addictive and very fun. You learn some basic strategies early on, such as anticipating the light bulbs' movements and you refine them as you go on. We were all very impressed with the app's professional design, sleek interface and high quality graphics. Wish more apps were like this ...

 

So, what are the app's disadvantages? We didn't really found any. Perhaps in a future update Texo Design would add different shaped screens and shapes for the light bulbs to move in, but's that in the future.

Our conclusion is that Tappy Bulbs is perfect for those two minutes you spend for the bus or that boring lecture you have to attend. Just whip out your Android smartphone and start tapping. As a side note, it's very useful in keeping kids occupied, which is always an important task ...

Battle Towers by GIGL - Android Game Review. This is quite a different take on tower defense android games and is actually somewhere in the middle between tower defense games and real time strategy games. 

Features include a host of single player scenarios to play, two sides - the good humans and the evil orcs and two types of money - gold and diamonds which later can be used to purchase structures, unit types or in game food.

The game itself is quite simple. Each of the two combatants (human in multiplayer mode or computer in single player mode) start with their own base and then use a pre alocated number of sites to expand their base. Then, combat begins.

A short update: Several weeks of playing the game reveals that advancing beyond a certain point becomes increasingly difficult. We are talking about the single player mode. A map would confront you with huge hordes of enemies and the player has to survive against overwhelming odds, when the player's own reinforcements coming in much later. This means you have to wait a day to get the money to start the map with a LOT of food or use real money to buy in game resources to produce the orcs and knights you need in order to survive. You have been warned ....

Battle Towers by GIGL - Android Game Review

Actually, combat takes place all the time. Each player builds and expands an army composed of three types of units (cheap food soldiers - goblins and mercenaries, medium soldiers like orcs and knights and finally the juggernauts - paladins and mutants that are very expensive).

Combat is fairly simple. All your units and roused to combat by pressing a single button and each player can designated targets or let the army pick their own. Units can have some special abilities like deflection by shield or extra damage to buildings. Usually combat is short and fierce but the most interesting feature is that when dead, units leave souls behind who drift back to the player's base and there resurrect. So, combat become less a matter of strategy and more a matter of logistics.

What makes the game complicated is the choice of buildings and spells that can boost units' stats and abilities or shield and repair buildings.

Of course, multiplayer games are usually short and furious affairs with frantic players issuing commands to their armies as fast as their fingers can manage.

Our reviewers generally liked Battle Towers. It's quite simple to understand and play but still has layers of depth and sophistication that let the great players distinguish themselves from the average ones. Even single player play is quite fun and interesting, though in time it becomes increasingly tough and may require real money purchasing of resources to strengthen your list of available food, units or buildings.




In conclusion, this is quite a good game, though our reviewers would have liked a little more variety of units and buildings. Even so, this game provides many hours of fun playing and single mode and multiplayer.

• Score: 4.5. Would have been 5 if in game saving was possible and a little more units would be available.
• Description: An RTS / Tower defense hybrid where you build your base and launch your armies against the enemy's armies. You can play as orc or human and select three types of increasingly expensive and powerful units. 
• Good Points: Simple yet has a strategic element. Some variety of units, spells and buildings. Good multiplayer experience. Almost no bugs experienced.
• Bad Points: A larger variey of units would have made the game better. Also lacking an in game saving feature.
• Experience: Learning the game takes no time at all, allowing the players to concentrate on the strategic elements. We found that playing orcs was much more difficult than playing humans as their better units and buildings are more expensive and harder to get.
• Longevity: Medium, which is quite good for a tower defense game.

Android Game Review - Nova Defense by EGSTUDIO. This game became an instant favorite among our testers. A truly unique and beautiful tower defense game with boss fights and player controlled characters, soldiers and mechs, this game really shines out among all the tower defense games out there today, with only one minor flaw and another thing that we would have liked to see.

It only has a 3.9 on Google Play but we give it a 4.9 easily! Though at first sight it looks like a conventional tower defense game, Nova Defense has some things that really make it stand out among the crowd, with really unique game play and features that turn it into another kind of game all together, a game not found on Android's google play. Having heroes that gain XP and advance in levels through each map is unheard off in tower defense games.

Still, almost perfect as it is, a few small things could still be improved ...

Android Game Review - Nova Defense by EGSTUDIO

A full 3D graphics game with TONS of enemies, towers and upgrades, we came to like this game right at the start. The game has the standard defense towers, from mortars to lasers to machine guns and the standard but very varied enemies from various types of infantry to tanks to walking creatures to flying crafts and creatures and finally huge titans.

Everything is done in full 3D with beautiful colors, precise rendering and enhanced animation to provide great graphics even on 10 inch tablets. Everything looks great, from the creatures to the terrain to the towers to the explosions.

However, the most interesting thing is the fact that the player gets movable units of his own. One type of tower manufactures moving units, infantry of several types or even mechs and the player gets to designate where the units are directed, in close proximity to the tower. This means we get another type of defense, one that is composed of movable units and not just completely static towers. The infantry we get and especially the mechs are very tough and its fun to finally pit units of our own against the endless hordes of enemies pouring in, the bane of every android tower defense game ...

• Score: A very solid 4.5. If would have been perfect if it had a SAVE option and all the heroes could be reached by finishing levels and not by buying with real dollars.
• Description: A tower defense game with a huge number of enemies, and towers that can build units you can control yourself.
• Good Points: Great graphics beat any tower defense game on Android. Units you can control yourself. A hero that can gain experience and grows in strength during the game.
• Bad Points: So far, the only minor flaw is that you cannot save a game, so your only option is to press pause and then switch tasks. This works but drains your battery faster. In addition, we would have liked a "fast forward" button for running things faster when waiting for the enemy to come to us ...
• Experience: Great game that most of our reviewers finished and then started again in Hero (harder mode). The few that uninstalled it were those that did not have the time for protracted game play and the lack of SAVE button annoyed them.

Defender by DroidHen is a tower defense game, where you have to protect your tower from waves of attacking monsters, aiming your trusty tower crossbow and throwing spells of three different kinds on your enemies who range from lowly trolls who bash your tower walls with clubs to dragons who breathe lethal fire over your fortifications.

The game is fun, easy to learn and certainly addictive, the graphics are fun and colorful and the creatures, especially the boss creatures are interesting but in the experience of all but a few our testers, you can't advance beyond a certain level, namely circa 100, without spending real money to buy crystals for upgrades and powering spells.

Now, spending money on app is not a bad idea but spending money to advance in levels - this is something we frown on.

Don't get us wrong. The game is certainly fun. Throwing fireballs, freezing monsters solid and fighting hordes of enemies with different configurations of crossbows (selecting a different upgrade to see which works the best) is very fun and certain strategies work best, aiming for increasing shooting frequency, strengthening the ice spell to freeze monsters for a longer time, having a strong fire spell for damage and even a week lightning spell helps to fight monsters while the stronger, main spells recharge.

The main problem, however, is with the boss fights. Once about every few dozens of levels a big boss fight comes up, with trolls, giants and dragons. The only way to beat them is by a massive usage of spells but blue crystals, mana, are used to cast spells and purchase upgrades, such as stronger spells, vital for survival. The end result is you reach the boss fights with too few crystals to win them, ever. 

So, in order to win the boss fights you have to shell out a few bucks and buy enough crystals to survive the boss fight and purchase the needed upgrades later. This means once in a number of levels the gamer must buy mana with real world money.

The opinions among our testers were mixed, but most didn't like this arrangement. Testers said it was very frustrating to work your way through the levels and find out you can only advance by paying money ...

To sum things up, our testers liked this game. It's a standard Tower Defense game with nice graphics and interesting spells and effects. The way DroidHen charges money for upgrades, like buy more mana, and makes it necessary for gamers to buy it in order to pass some boss battles made quite a lot of our testers to eventually stop playing and uninstall the game

• Score: 4 out 5. A fun and addictive game, but the way it forces the gamers to buy upgrades and mana with real money was a turn off for many of our testers.
• Description: A standard Tower Defense game where the gamer protects his tower against hordes of invading monsters, from trolls to giants to other creatures, using an upgradable crossbow and three types of magic spells. During hundreds of levels the monsters become increasingly harder and tougher.
• Good Points: A very fun and addictive game. An advancement table both for the crossbow and the magic, to get more powerful weapons and spells with increasing power and duration. Interesting boss creatures, some even flying ...
• Bad Points: Actually, our testers pointed out one major bad point. In order to pass certain boss levels you have to shell out real world money to buy mana, otherwise passing those levels is next to impossible.
• Experience: All our testers reported great enthusiasm at first, some even playing hours playing the game, rising up through the levels, amassing weapon and spell advancement, Then, when the tougher boss battles come, and when the stockpiles of hard eared mana are all used up to win the battle, most testers became discouraged.
• Longevity: Medium. Since higher levels almost always require real money to pass the tougher boss battles. quite a lot of our testers stopped playing and uninstalled the game. Only some die hard fans kept playing the game.

Android Game App Review - DROID COMBAT - MISSION ALPHA by MunkyFun. Quite a fun and addictive game, you get to fly a droid in various combat situations (mostly space but atmospheric combat also exists) against another drone. You and the enemy fire missiles at each other and you use lasers to detonate the enemy's mech missiles from reaching you and fire missiles of your own at the enemy.

Now, the trick here is to time your strikes and your defenses. You can plot a course for the missile to prolong its flight time (and thus, create longer courses for the missiles you fire first, shorter and more direct courses to the missiles you fire after) and fire several missiles to overwhelm the enemy's droid or robot defenses.

The game is fun, has great graphics, a sizable amount of upgrades and equipment and even a multiplayer mode. The space combat backgrounds are really breathtaking, as is the in mission graphics.

But, as is almost always the case, there were things we didn't like. Droid Combat's missions become repetitive in time with little variation, even though you get to use different missiles and lasers. In addition, it costs money or a lot of time to be able to purchase the various upgrades. Last but not least is the fact you get a notification if you don't play for more than a day or so, which almost all of our testers found annoying. Notification bar is for smartphone notifications and not telling you you haven't played for over twenty four hours!

In conclusion, a fun an addictive game that lasts for a month or two, tops. We can hardly wait for the next versions, with more missions and diverse scenarios!

• Description: A 3D mech combat game where you play against another mech in fligt, firing missiles and lasers to intercept the missiles. In time, you earn enough money to upgrade your weapons and even buy new mechs.
• Good Points: A simple game interface easy to learn with a hidden depth for planning missile courses for optimal results. Short missions ideal for quick smartphone game pauses at work ...
• Bad Points: Repetitive game play that becomes a little boring in time. A messege in the notification bar (!!!) if you don't play for more than twenty four hours. 
• Experience: The game is quite large but installs with no problem. We encountered very few crashes and freeze-ups of the game. Multiplayer was a problem though because too few people play the game, yet.
• Longevity: Most of our testers enjoyed playing Droid Combat for a month or two and then uninstalled it (this is quite the normal time for Android games). A few die-hard mech combat fans kept the game installed.
